We've Moved!

Happy Wednesday everyone!

It's just about 2:35 AM right now--crazy, right?

The techy person (my daughter) at Boojiboo decided to move the blog over to wordpress.com. Supposedly the dashboard organization is better. What that means, I do not know. But I trust her... or rather, I have no choice.

I did notice it has a cool navigation strip at the top, and now we can reply individually to your comments! Sidenote--we do read each and every one of your comments. We just haven't found an effective way to reply to them--but now we have, so yay!

This blog and everything here will remain, but no updates after this one at this location!

So make sure to book mark the new blog! All the posts and comments on this blog have also been transferred/copied to the new one.

Screenprinting experience!

This weekend was certainly an eventful one!

We needed some totes that our customers could use over and over again, compared to the plastic ones we're used to handing out at shows. So we decided to make some simple totes!

My son helped screen print the images, and my daughters will be sewing up the bags. We can proudly say we made all of them ourselves, from start to finish!

Here we have all the pieces cut out... took us all night!

And the printing begins!At first we laid the pieces out on the table to dry, as the lines that ran across the ceiling weren't hung up yet...we ran out of room though, so we were all scrambling around like chickens with our heads cut off.Here's a picture from under the clothes lines--Much better! They were running back and forth across our studio.After those were dried, the pink heart was ready to go on!
VOILA!Aren't these cool? There's a nifty little pocket on the inside as well. It's quite a big bag, so it's a perfect shopper! We at boojiboo are pretty excited...

The Mimi Apron

May I introduce to you, The Mimi Petite apron!

This apron is aimed towards those who are from sizes 0 to 6. It's very unlike the typical boojiboo apron as it has a FLAT bib. It has a ruffle around the bottom of the skirt and even on the pocket!

The apron itself is a few inches smaller than our other aprons.

We might tweak it a bit, but so far this is what we got! This is the prototype we settled with, we have another one with a scalloped edge and a few others where the bib has a different shape.

Random Bits of Lovely Information

We made it to the front page of etsy! Granted, it's from February and it's not like we were featured, but we never even knew. How exciting!

Are you in need of a tote? Clutch? Mini Wallet? Then I think you need to check out the boojibootique giveaway , which is running until the 31st, so enter! So far there are ONLY 43 entries...

And remember that new apron style I mentioned? It will be debuting on Monday... maybe Sunday evening. MAYBE. We're quite excited about this new style, we think it will appeal to more people than before...a new target audience! It will also fulfill a lot of people's requests.

A boojiboo apron giveaway should be happening some time next week. As always, i will post about it. But just a little heads up!

Also, we will be doing the Las Vegas Harvest Festival from August 28 to 30th. The Harvest Festival is always one of our favorite shows, especially this one! Stop by and say hi if you are in the area, it's always nice to meet our customers!

Oh no!

It has been quite a dangerous week for Boojiboo!

While sewing the other day, I hit a seam with many layers and my needle actually split, sending one chunk towards my eye. It's a good thing I have cat-like reflexes.
Then today while cutting fabric, I cut an electrical cord! Sparks flew everywhere, and the studio blacked out. We were without electricity for about ten minutes. My blade now has hole in it, and my electrical cord is cut in half... It even melted the blade a wee bit!

So be careful!

New Aprons

Happy Monday!

It's 2:32 AM right now but wanted to let you all know that a new apron style is in the works, so look for it in the coming weeks!

I was taking pictures of new aprons (fabric/style combinations) for 4 hours! I will be slowly listing them in our shop. There are some new fabrics, but mostly they are ones you may have seen before but in a different apron style. One of the new fabrics we were lucky enough to find is a beautiful pink and brown toile. Here it is in the Maggie style. Purty isn't it?

Bitsy the Deer!

A few years ago I acquired a Japanese craft book. In it was a beyond-cute toy pattern--a deer! I had some spare time and decided to make one.

I made it with a scrap bandanna and some felt. It was not fun to sew, and took much longer than expected. Turning the legs and neck inside out was a real pain since they were so skinny... But I am quite pleased with it!

I added bows to each ear and eventually added a big one to the neck. Sadly, I've misplaced my button jar so for now, she shall remain eyeless.

The book advises you to put metal wire in the feet--being the rebel i am, I didn't... and now her legs are too weak to support her body, thanks to the massive un-proportionate head. I had to use a metal ring to hold the legs together, allowing her to stand up straight on her own. Another day I'll have to do some 'surgery' and add wire to the legs.

I named her Bitsy!

Has anyone taken a stab at these japanese felt/vinyl toys? Any suggestions?

Would just like to confirm quickly that we are NOT associated with ANY OTHER apron seller on ETSY. As similar as the apron designs may look, we DO NOT sell our patterns (EVER).

The only stores we are associated with are boojiboo, boojibootique, thesnootypoodle, and izznit.

Totally forgot it was Boojiboo's etsy birthday yesterday. Can't believe it's already been three years since we've joined, I'm soo glad we did!

Thanks for those of you who commented on our post that asked for feedback/advice, we really appreciate the time and effort some of you put into your answers. Very good points were brought up and we will definitely try to put some of those into effect.

An 'about me' page will be put up soon, and we will try to post about new styles/custom orders (if I remember, sometimes everything goes by so quickly!)

What threw us off about our 'casualness' were the e-mails/replies we sometimes received. No "hello's" or "thanks", we would just wonder if they thought we were crazy? Perhaps unprofessional for responding in such a manner?

As for pictures, there is really nowhere in our house with good lighting, and sadly photo shopping all our pictures would be too time consuming. When I get the chance, I 'borrow' a friend's studio, but that's rare. I was just curious as to how people felt about the apron backgrounds, I wasn't sure if it was a major/minor factor in a few people's decisions or if the majority/minority liked the kitchen setting. We'll keep it for now, but I suppose I will have to spend a little more time fixing those pictures to make sure they are true to color.

Giveaways, we love them! It makes us so happy when our customers tell us they 'love their apron' or how 'cute' it makes them feel, as corny as that sounds. And who doesn't love free things?

Lastly, our babies! We do try and keep our dogs away from the aprons as much as possible. There are a few pictures where our dogs are seen next to the aprons, but we only take apron pictures once, meaning only one apron was 'exposed' to our dogs so directly. Before we ship each apron, they are ironed, 'cleaned', and then folded and stored in a container, so really aprons aren't exposed to the dogs as much as one would think.

We finally have an FAQ page up! Hopefully some of your questions will be answered, saving you some wait time. If there are any questions you think should be addressed, leave it in the comments!

Now I need some input from my lovely readers in regards to our blog and etsy store :)

Do you think an "about me" page would be appropriate? Are you at all interested as to how Boojiboo came to be? (no offense if the answer's 'no')

Long Time No Post

Sorry about that, here are a few updates!

We have a facebook page, become a fan! The photo uploader isn't working and hasn't been for a while. The server times out everytime I try to upload pics...will attempt to upload some later. Anyway, the page has a nifty events calendar on the side, so if you want to know when our next show is, take a look!

We also decided that our twitter and fb page will be to alert you of new blog posts/giveaways ONLY... maybe a tweet here and then about a new fabric. Only newsworthy stuff. Not sure many of you would be interested in hearing what I ate for lunch. (Perhaps I'm the only tweeter out there who is actually scared of boring my 'followers').

We're trying to line up some giveaways for you guys. We've had so many offers-- Boojiboo is very flattered, we really do appreciate your interest in us. Wish we could accept them all!

Other than the giveaways, the head cheese of Boojiboo has been sewing up a storm. The apron stock has been quite pathetic as of late, and the next craft show/festival is coming up in late August! It's the Harvest Festival in Las Vegas!

Apron Giveaway + Strawberry Fest

We had sooo much fun at the Strawberry Festival!

The crowd was MASSIVE, it was hard to walk through...
After a while we picked up some strawberries, and at the very top I found a mutant strawberry. It made us laugh... but we found it was too weird to eat.
We settled on THE BEST crepes instead.
The babies seemed to have a lot of fun, but they were covered in dirt--Stinky was no longer white, but brown! They were too exhausted to wait for me to lay a sheet down... I turned around and they were already in the dirt. They refused to move. An outside shot of 1/2 the show:
Sadly all good things must come to an end...and as much as we love strawberries and the strawberry festival, we are so glad to be home!

Set Up!

We're all going to have an early night tonight... Woke up at 4AM, finished set up at 6PM, ate soup plantation, and it is now 9PM. The horror!

Tomorrow's going to be a looooooong day. But the strawberry shortcake and strawberry crepes will make it better. I'm sure.

Here are a few pics from set up today... I know many don't even think about how a festival they're attending came to be, so maybe this post will give you a little glimpse.

We have to wrap the booth overnight to prevent any damage from outside forces... Nobody's booth is unwrapped....

Wow!

Mondays are the most awkward days of the week at the post office...

We have all the weekend sales plus the early morning sales packed and in hand as we walk through those ridiculously tiny post office doors. Not to mention the stares we get after all the commotion we make trying to fit through them. This happens every single Monday. You would think they'd be used to us by now. Nope.

I still wasn't done packing when these pictures were taken.

But don't get me wrong, i love going to the post office. It gives me time to listen to music in the car. Adam Lambert's rendition of "If i can't have you" has been on repeat FOREVER. Does that make me lame?

Now, I wish I could share an epic saga where pirates try and take over boojiboo and steal our sewing machines for collateral, demanding we give them our apron patterns... But I can't. That's ridiculous.

So sadly, this is exciting as this post gets. ;)

Sunset Beach

Sunset Beach Art Festival

"Annual two day festival in its 42nd year! Art, music and famous raffles including the coveted Quilt!!"

Hello! I hope everyone's had a good Monday through Wednesday! :)

Boojiboo will be at this years Sunset Beach Art Festival Mother's day weekend (May 9 through 10th from 9am to 4pm). It's our sixth year doing this show and we just love it!

It is located in the Community Center and on the green belt between North and South Pacific stretching from Broadway to 5th street. Proceeds from this event help local schools and charities for the mentally ill, homeless, and abused women. It's all for a great cause!

The beach is literally across the street, so when you're done shopping your heart out you can relax! It's a very family-oriented festival, so no need to leave your kiddies at home.

Tons of vendors with perfect Mother's day gifts for you last minute shoppers. Purchase on Saturday and can give on Sunday!

A lot of great food, too! (fish tacos. OMG. so good)

Unique L.A.!

Went to Unique L.A. both Saturday and Sunday! Yes, it was that amazing. Saw many cool things and purchased a few, too!

Wolves and willows makes these uber cool leather bracelets...studs and chains, oh my!

Rock Scissor Paper had the CUTEST notebooks! Each is one of a kind since they are made with vintage fabrics. I wanted to grab them all...

and I also purchased this really cute scarf! It's made out of organic cotton and was even given to me in a bio degradable 'plastic' bag made out of corn starch (too cool)!!! I was lame and misplaced a bag with all the business cards I grabbed. If you know who made this please let me know! I would love to give credit where credit is due!
Purchased a few other things but those cannot be revealed...they were gifts :D

Because the show was being held at the pent house on the very top floor of the building, we had a wonderful view of Los Angeles!

May I Introduce to you...

Maggie and Stinky!

These are the two dogs that you see in nearly all of our listings. They are the loves of our lives! Both are about two years old and came from the same litter, Maggie is the fawn boxer and Stinky is the white boxer. We cannot imagine our lives without them, they always put a smile on our faces!

Here we have Maggie, AKA Maggie Waggie, Princess, Su Mai, Meatball, or Pretty. She cannot stand the camera which is why most of the time there is no eye contact or her head is turned... If there ever is a full on head shot, it was because I had to be a camera ninja. She is the EXACT opposite of her brother, very independent but just as cute! She has an impressive vocabulary and is so far able to understand the words "chicken", "ice cream", "ribs", "rice", "sleep", "shower", and "move". Maggie knows a few phrases, too! "Just kidding" (she'll go back to what she was doing before I told her to move), "Where's Stinky? (she'll find him)", and "Where's [insert person's name here]?" and she'll find them! I consider her a modern day Lassie... haha!
Next we have Stinky, AKA Stinky Winky, Boy Boy, Lechito, or Har Gow. He is an absolute HAM, he loves attention and will pretend to love you the most, right up until he leaves you because someone else has a treat in their hand. Stinky follows his sister's lead as he is deaf. Sometimes we forget though, most of the time he is the first one to 'sense' our presence! He is very 'delicate', sometimes refusing to step in puddles...he will then wait for one of us to carry him. You read that right. We will CARRY him over puddles. I think you'd cave, too, especially if he gave you 'the look'. And unlike his sister, he loves loves loves the camera! He is usually able to weasel his way into the main apron shots... We would hate to hurt his self-esteem, so we humor him. But like all models, he has his off days.
and there you have it, the children of Boojiboo, Maggie and Stinky.

Strawberry Festival!

We haven't updated in a while, but with good reason. The past few weeks we've been getting ready for ...the STRAWBERRY FESTIVALl !!! It's our favorite craft show of the year, we just love the funnel cake, the short bread, the crepes, the popcorn, the customers...everything. It's a mini-vacation for us. The strawberries are always the sweetest and we always make sure to come back with a few flats. Here is a what we've been sewing.

Fabric Shopping

Good afternoon everyone!

We went fabric shopping today and brought back quite a haul... the shopping cart was FULL. I know it doesn't look like a lot, but we almost couldn't fit through the door haha.

We're busy making them into pretty aprons right now... Just thought I'd update the blog. I'm new to this blogging thing so forgive me if I don't provide any interesting reads!

Sure thing chicken wing! We offer a 20% discount with a MINIMUM order of $200, not including shipping. We will not offer a bigger discount. We MUST be informed of your entire order BEFORE you add all the items to your cart and proceed through checkout, if not the discount will not apply.

Washing your apron

You can throw it in the washing machine as well as the dryer, just make sure it is washed in COLD water and dried on the DELICATE setting (minimize shrinkage).

It may need some ironing afterward!

Custom Orders

PLEASE be specific with what you would like. Did you see an apron you like but wanted it in a different fabric? Do you want us to alter our apron style? How much did you want to alter? Do you want us to create a completely new style? Do you want us to make an apron for you out of your own fabric?

For all custom orders we have a two week turnaround time. If you are sending us fabric, the two weeks starts from the day we receive the material. If we are providing the fabric, it starts from the day we receive payment.

If for whatever reason you are unsatisfied with your purchase, contact us (either via etsy convo or email), and we will let you know where to send it back to us.

A refund is offered after we receive the item in the same condition it was sent to you in. We do not cover or refund shipping costs (both ways).

If you are exchanging an item, in the email or convo let us know what you would like to exchange your item for. If there is a difference in price we will either refund it to you (not including shipping) or request you to pay it.

Are these ready to ship?
Yes, all the items listed in our store are ready to ship.

How long will it take to ship?
We ship the next business day (if not the same day) after receiving payment.

One apron within the US will ship via USPS first class, which takes about 3-5 business days . This amount starts AFTER it leaves our hands, it does not take into account our processing time (1 business day).

One apron outside of the US ships first class, and takes 6-10 business days. This estimate does not take into account customs, who may or may not hold it hostage. We are not responsible for any extra fees.

How do I track my item?
Paypal usually sends out an e-mail saying the seller is preparing your item for shipment, and plans to ship on a certain day. A tracking number is usually provided in that e-mail. If it is not feel free to e-mail us. Please include the item you purchased it and the date. Your etsy username would be appreciated, too!

I'm a Mother to four kids, two boys and two girls. Besides sewing, knitting and crocheting are my favorite hobbies! I'm a grandma as well, but I have 'granddogs' (two boxers, Maggie and Stinky!) rather than grandkids. They keep me company while the kids are at work and school.

I've always loved creating things, ever since I was a little girl. I would stay up for hours embroidering/hand-sewing pieces of fabric together. It was therapeautic for me, and I could always feel accomplished because I was able to make something myself. After I got married and the kids grew up, I had more time to myself and decided to pick up my hobbies again. When I realized I could make money doing what I love, Boojiboo started!

Boojiboo actually began as a raggedy-ann doll company created by me. After a few years, my children decided it was finally time to appeal to a different demographic (their generation). Always having a love for vintage and retro fashion, they suggested vintage inspired aprons, and when they began school that required many books, they suggested bags! Fast forward a few years, Boojiboo is now a family company that sells vintage inspired aprons for women and children, book bags, market bags, tea towels, and baby bibs!

Since boojiboo has taken off, I can no longer handle sewing by myself. I still do the majority of the work, but my two daughters will help me when they see I need it. Especially during the holidays and craft show season! The rest of the time, they help me with custom orders, answering convos/emails, and listing as I am technologically illiterate. My daughters also have a say in the overall design of an apron, and ultimately give the 'yay' or 'nay'. They sort of guarantee the aprons will appeal to all generations and not just mine. But I do the rest, including packing, shipping, and the funnest part of it, fabric shopping!
